Today's Prompt: A major life event...

Our wedding, and the birth of our children are my two favorite life events. A major life event was saying goodbye to our parents the first time we moved out of state. I knew that saying goodbye would be difficult, but I had no idea how much strength and courage it would take.

The truck was loaded, and had pulled out of the parking lot of our apartment, the time had come to say goodbye to my Mother. The evening before was heart wrenching when we said goodbye to Mike's family, and the idea of saying goodbye to my Mom was something I was not looking forward to. She and I sat on the steps of my apartment, and just held hands. She finally looked at me and said "You can do this, and you will love it. On to bigger and better things." I was bawling by this point and just wanted to fall into her arms, instead I looked at her and just forced a big girl smile. She and then walked out to the car, and she just hugged me. She tried to pull away twice, and I would not let go! I told her how much I loved her, and could not imagine facing this without her. She whispered, "I am so proud of you, and you know how much I love you." She gave me one more squeeze, and then she said, "No more tears." She then got into her car, and drove away. It was the one moment I will never forget, Mike and I were setting out on a journey so far from home, with many new life changes ahead of us. New work, a baby, and making New Jersey home...all laid before us. I knew at that moment it was okay, we had made the right choice.
