Food For Thought - Support America's Farmers

This post was created in partnership with America's Farmers. All opinions are my own.
My teens years were spent growing up, in a small farming community in Missouri. I was always amazed by the teenagers in my classes who would arrive with mud covered boots, the scent of fresh earth radiating from their denim jeans, or their need to take off of school during the fall harvest. I was a "city girl," who was transplanted, into the middle of nowhere. The idea of farming, the way of life, and the means to support a family via growing crops was just seemed so foreign to me!

I never quite understood that the young men in my classes, woke before dawn to turn on tractors before meeting the school bus. While I slept all snuggled in the warmth of my bed, the star of our basketball team would help her father with whatever was needed at their farm. School was very important, sports were fun, but farming never rested, and still had to find a place within their very active lives. Farming meant survival of our local families, and the amazing locally grown food and crops were in every aspect of our lives.

My own family would grow alfalfa in our fields, that would feed the horses we raised in our barn. The countless bales of alfalfa that needed to be tossed onto a trailer after bailing, and then stored in the high recesses of our barn, would help me to understand just a fraction of the hard work that my friends families labored to do on a daily basis. I finally would come to understand that it truly takes love, patience, dedication, sweat, and hours of hard work to produce the corn, soybeans, winter wheat, alfalfa, and numerous other crops in our small farming community. Have you given much thought to the food that is on your table? How can you support America's farmers? Have you taken the time to really thank a farmer or learned how your local farmer can be supported?

Please check out America's Farmers for more information on how you can support your local farmers. Support the families who grow crops, the food we eat, and the amazing sources of energy which are American grown. These men, women, and families need our continued help and support, as they are our American Farmers.

Need For Speed - "The Guys"

DreamWorks Pictures’ “Need for Speed” marks an exciting return to the great car culture films of the 1960s and ’70s, when the authenticity of the world brought a new level of intensity to the action on-screen. Tapping into what makes the American myth of the open road so appealing, the story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country journey for our heroes  one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. Based on the most successful racing video game franchise ever with over 140 million copies sold, "Need for Speed" captures the freedom and excitement of the game in a real-world setting, while bringing to life the passion for the road that has made our love of cars so timeless.

The film centers around Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul), a blue-collar mechanic who races muscle cars on the side in an unsanctioned street-racing circuit. Struggling to keep his family-owned garage afloat, he reluctantly partners with the wealthy and arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). But just as a major sale to car broker Julia Maddon (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save Tobey's shop, a disastrous race allows Dino to frame Tobey for a crime he didn’t commit, and sending Tobey to prison while Dino expands his business out West.

Two years later, Tobey is released and set on revenge  but he knows his only chance to take down his rival Dino is to defeat him in the high-stakes race known as De Leon — the Super Bowl of underground racing. However to get there in time, Tobey will have to run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet that includes dodging pursuing cops coast-to-coast as well as contending with a dangerous bounty Dino has put out on his car. With the help of his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

“Need for Speed” is presented by DreamWorks Pictures, produced by Patrick O’Brien, John Gatins and Mark Sourian, and directed by Scott Waugh. The screenplay is by George Gatins. The story is by George Gatins & John Gatins, and, based on the video game series created by Electronic Arts. The film releases in U.S. theaters on March 14, 2014.

Will Kermit Frog Finally Say "I Do"? #MuppetsMostWanted

Vivienne Westwood Couture Wedding Dress Designed Exclusively for the Divine Diva

Will Kermit the Frog Finally Say “I Do”?

At last! Miss Piggy is back on the big screen, starring in Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted,” which follows the Muppets on a grand, star-studded tour throughout Europe. The European setting screamed romance to Miss Piggy, who’s been trying to convince her favourite frog to tie the knot for years. But what will the divine diva don for the all-new film, which hits theaters in the US March 21, 2014? Vivienne Westwood was commissioned to create couture designs for the fashion icon, including a white dress that would be perfect for a wedding … if one should actually take place.

“Vivienne Westwood is fabulous—just like moi,” said Miss Piggy. “When I asked her to design this wedding dress for moi’s new movie “Muppets Most Wanted,” she was thrilled and I was thrilled. The only one a bit ‘iffy’ about it was the Frog.”

In the film, Miss Piggy wears a Vivienne Westwood couture Long Ivory Court wedding gown, with corset detailing and paillettes made from recycled plastic bottles, accessorized with an ivory tulle veil. Piggy also entrusted the designer with additional looks for the film, including a Vivienne Westwood couture Harris Tweed houndstooth check coat and matching beret worn in a scene set at Tower of London. Miss Piggy also chose a long silver hand-embroidered floral lace gown for a very special number in the film.

So the question on everyone’s lips remains: Will we see Miss Piggy marry her beloved Kermie in “Muppets Most Wanted,” and will she finally get to wear her dream Vivienne Westwood gown down the aisle?

“You’ll have to see the movie to find out,” insisted Miss Piggy.

-An exclusive Q&A with Vivienne Westwood about designing this gown is available in the March issue of US Harpers’ Bazaar, click here to read the story www.harpersbazaar.com/misspiggy
