Today's Prompt:   Recipes that baffle me.

I love to bake, and there are many recipes that I have tried, and loved. The flip side is there have been many that have failed or just tasted horrible! Through trial and error, I have learned so much, since I made cookies for the first time in grade school. I remember taking Home Economics in high school, and while baking blueberry muffins; the teacher graded you pass or fail, if your muffins didn't turn green while folding in the blueberries! Thank goodness I had a mom and grandmother who loved to bake, as I passed the assignment and was able to share the muffins with a few friends and teachers.

I have had many failures in the kitchen; I once burned a whole pot of macaroni and cheese! Who burns macaroni? I wont even talk about the first time I tried to make a big breakfast of bacon and eggs, soon after Mike and I returned home from our honeymoon. (I may or may not have set off the smoke alarms, and almost burnt down the kitchen.) This is why I stick to baking, and leave the cooking of beautiful main course meals, to my husband the Chef!

I am baffled by homemade berry pies, as I always get a soggy crust and the berries, rarely set. I also love meringue, and have yet to get a mile high chocolate pie, like I grew up with.  (Cowan's in Washington, Missouri is still making their famous pies!) I have set a goal to bake one amazing cherry pie, and one to die for lemon meringue pie in 2012. I know it all comes down to technique, and there is an art to baking, but alas I am baffled by pies. Is there a support group or refresher course...berry pie boot camp?

Maybe I should stick to what I know I have mastered? Am I the only one who wishes she had a, Fairy "Pie" Godmother?
