{Book Review} Complete Cake Mix Magic #Duncan Hines


Who doesn't love cake? Who said cake has to be from scratch? Complete Cake Mix Magic, is your solution to amazing cakes from a Duncan Hines cake mix! If you have ever been in a pinch or totally forgot you needed to bring something to the office for a co-worker's birthday, this book will save the day.

My boys and I sat down, and looked at all of the recipes and vivid color pictures in Complete Cake Mix Magic. My three year old, asked to look through the book again, and I was happy to look at all of the pictures again with him! (I love it when he joins me in the kitchen to bake.) My oldest wanted to hear what each recipe needed and what flavors or mix ins would be needed. Looking through the book as a family was fun and a great bonding experience. We choose the "Chocolate Caramel Cream Dessert," and it was so simple, delicious, and the kids enjoyed helping to make it!

 
Chocolate Caramel Cream Dessert
 
1 package (18.25 oz) devils food cake mix
1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 Cups toffee bits
1 1/4 Cups caramel sundae sauce
2 Cups whipping (35%) cream
1 Cup milk chocolate chips
 
  • Preheat oven to 350 F
  • 13" x 9" cake pan, greased
 
Directions: Prepare and bake cake in prepared cake pan according to package directions. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack. Poke holes with end of wooden spoon, about 1 inch deep and 1 inch apart, over entire surface of cake. Pour sweetened condensed milk on top. Sprinkle half the toffee bits on top. Pour caramel sauce on top. Beat whipping cream to stiff peaks. Spread evenly over cake. Sprinkle chocolate chips and remaining toffee bits over cream. Chill until serving. Store leftover dessert in the refridgerator.
 
Variation: Replace milk chocolate chips and toffee bits on top of the cake, with crushed toffee-crunch chocolate bars.
 
*Tip: Toffee bits (such as Skor Bits or Heath Bits) can be found where chocolate chips are sold.
 
 
The kids and I can not wait to make this cake again! Super moist and very sweet, it was exactly what we hoped it would be. We look forward to making many more recipies from Complete Cake Mix Magic in the near future.
