I'm Back From Vacation!

We took our family vacation this year to visit family in St. Louis! Our "stay-cation," at "home," wasn't about tourist sights and running all over town to visit points of interest; our trip was to see family that we haven't seen in a year and half. It was a trip to relax, hang at the pool, ate great family style meals, and just relax...just like we might spend a week at home. We played hard, and the kids often just crashed when they sat still for a few moments.

We ate...and ate...and ate...did I mention that there was great food? Yes, all of the comforts of home, and a few food items unique to St. Louis, Missouri! Have you heard of Gooey Butter Cake, Imo's Pizza, Toasted Ravioli, or Pork Steaks? I ate them all while in St. Louis, and am not one little bit ashamed or feeling guilty!

We spent time with family, and created simple at home memories. We talked about baseball, fishing, and the latest family news. (One Aunt just climbed Mt. Shasta and another just had a book published!) We were able to gather my Dad and brothers for a meal together, it has only been two years...so it was a huge deal! Not all memories have to be spent on lavish vacations, some are simple and amazing!

We can not wait to return to visit St. Louis or maybe next year meet them at a beach!?

Did/does your family plan to take a simple "home," based vacation? When was the last time you just took a trip to see family? Has it been way to long since you ate the foods you grew up with? Does a meal, sight, or location remind you of simple and happy times?

  2. I am so sad I didn't get to see you but I know you had lots of time to make up with not being home in so long! My family is going to Disney World next September! I can't wait.

  3. Love the pictures! So glad to hear you had a great staycation away from home. Looks like just the trip you needed to refresh and enjoy some great family time together. We are taking a trip to CT to visit my husbands grandparents but not making the drive any further this year. Instead we will head to the beach for a night. Hooray! I'm happy we aren't doing the 12 hour drive this summer. We decided to push it until September to enjoy the new england foliage.
