present Dralion
Fusing the 3000 year old tradition of Chinese acrobatic arts,
with the multidisciplinary approach of Cirque du Soleil, Dralion (pronounced
“Dra-lee-on) draws its inspiration from Eastern philosophy and its never-ending
quest for harmony between humans and nature. The show’s name is derived from
its two emblematic creatures: the dragon, symbolizing the East, and the lion,
symbolizing the West. - Press ReleaseCirque du Soleil is coming to Baltimore August 22 -26, to perform Dralion! I had the extreme pleasure to meet juggler, Vladik Miagkostupov of Dralion, on behalf of Macaroni Kid Northwest Baltimore.
Cirque du Soleil saw him at the Cirque de Demain’s competition and then invited him to send a video. Vladik joined Cirque du Soleil in 2003 as a performer in Solstrom by Cirque du Soleil. He joined Dralion on tour in 2006. His act is not just an ordinary juggling act but includes a modern mix of juggling, dance and acrobatics.
I was amazed that Vladik was beyond any juggler I have ever imagined!
He came out in a costume that was breathtaking and appeared to be a part of his
very center of creativity! The music matched every move that he made, and his
movements were flawless! I never imagined that he would combine artistry,
agility, acrobatics, and dance to the precision and mastery of juggling. He
made use of 7 balls and 6 clubs, and never dropped one while dancing and was in
continuous motion!
He took a few moments to share with us his love of juggling, after his performance. He explained that he had a very normal childhood, and even played basketball; before following in footsteps of his artistic parents. He is a husband and loving father, who just happens to juggle for Cirque du Soleil. I loved that he showed passion and zeal when speaking about juggling, and encouraged children to pursue their dreams. He focused on little known talents that can become big dreams!
Vladik Miagkostupov, is just one of the many reasons I cannot wait to see Dralion, as he just wowed everyone in the room! There are numerous acts that will ignite the senses and awaits your viewing pleasure such as: Aerial pas de Deux, Dralions, Handbalancing, Trampoline, Medusa, and Bamboo Poles. There are stunning characters in lavish costumes, that will weave the story in and out of the show symbolizing the four elements; Azala, Gaya, Oceane, Yao. The show features Eastern and Western music, which is performed live at each show! Dralion will not disappoint as it bears the unmistakable signature of Cirque du Soleil!
